The Chikungunya lgG/lgM Combo Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of lgG and lgM antibodies to Chikungunya in human's whole blood, serum or plasma. It is intended to be used as a screening test and as an aid in the diagnosis of infection with CHIK. Any reactive specimen with the Chikungunya lgG/lgM Combo Rapid Test must be confimed with alternative testing method(s) and clinical findings.
Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bites of infected *Aedes* mosquitoes, primarily *Aedes aegypti* and *Aedes albopictus*. The disease is characterized by an abrupt onset of high fever and severe, often debilitating, joint pain, which is typically more intense in the small joints . Other common symptoms include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, and rash.
There is no specific antiviral treatment for chikungunya; clinical management focuses on relieving symptoms. This includes using antipyretics for fever and analgesics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for joint pain, along with adequate hydration. While the acute phase usually lasts for a few days, joint pain can persist for months or even years in some patients, causing long-term discomfort and disability. Prevention centers on avoiding mosquito bites through repellents, protective clothing, and eliminating breeding sites.
